Florida Keys Pipeline Scour Remediation

December 2009 Dec2009 CEM EnterprisesFlKeysTo prevent damage to the pipeline, UESI Placed of 7,000 square feet of articulating block mat, river rock, and geotextile in shallow water to protect a critical drinking water pipe. Prior to mat placement a corrosion inhibiting jacket was installed on the pipe. Project challenges included shallow water in the stretch of A1A between Homestead and Key Largo, overhead obstacles, and maintaining turbidity control during hand jetting and rock placement tasks. Turbidity problems were made even more difficult by strong tidal currents. UESI project managers used small 30’ x 13’ work platforms to accomplish the task. The project was completed safely, ahead of schedule, with no change orders, and in compliance with all DEP permits.  UESI has completed six of these difficult projects for this client and numerous similar projects for additional clients.
