UESI Hyperbaric Welding Chamber

UESI Hyperbaric Welding Chamber to be used for Unique Weld Qualifications

 June 2015

UESI HyperbaricWeldingChamber1In partnership with both private industry and government agencies, UESI is currently readying for several test programs that will be used to qualify welded processes and weld materials under conditions that simulate the actual work environment. Welding will be performed in wet conditions under the pressure expected to be encountered at depth. UESI engineers, technicians, and divers will support these efforts at UESI’s welding facility in Fort Pierce, Florida.

UESI has been providing nuclear and commercial underwater wet welding services since the mid 1990’s. In 2009, UESI had a custom, state of the art, hyperbaric welding chamber manufactured and certified to ASME Section VIII and all related diving standards. The UESI Hyperbaric Welding & Testing Facility provides in-house performance of welding qualifications, testing, mock-ups, material qualifications, etc. for UESI welding services.

UESI provides the following “at depth” underwater wet & dry hyperbaric testing and qualifications in accordance with AWS D3.6M and ASME Sections II, IX & XI Codes and Standards:

Procedure Qualification Record (PQR)

  • Welding Procedure Specification (WPS)
  • Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ)
  • Weld material mechanical and physical/chemical properties tests
  • Research and Development testing of welding filler materials to depth limitations and performance
  • R & D of dissimilar base metal welds to depth limitations and performance
  • Mock-up and proof testing of welding and cutting operations (e.g. plasma arc cutting)
  • Customized welding/cutting operation penetrations and Vessel operating safety functions
  • Physical viewing and digital CCD camera recording to DVD of audio and visual
  • Training and qualification services to external customers
