St Lucie County Artificial Reef Project
The following video produced by St Lucie County TV for an Inside SL segment highlights one of UESI’s latest projects.
Crews from UESI and McCulley Marine Services, Inc. are working together to help with the South County Beach and Dune and restoration project by building a new nearshore artificial reef. Working just offshore Hutchinson Island to place 6700 tons of limestone rock in 10 to 15 feet of water, McCulley marine is providing barges and positioning systems while UESI personnel handle lifting and placement using cranes and a specially designed grapple to efficiently lift and place the large limestone boulders. Rocks are carefully placed by crane with the help of UESI divers to ensure that placement is accurate and meets the County’s exacting standards. The cells formed by this rock will provide habitats for marine life and sea turtles and help to stabilize the shoreline.
