Subaqueous/Sub bottom cable repair

Subaqueous/Sub bottom cable repair
subaqueousUESI recently performed a first of a kind underwater cable repair. The repair was unique in that it required a custom fabricated pressurized repair clamp be welded in place insitu. The repair location was five feet below the mudline and resting on bedrock. Excavation of the mud bottom as well the adjacent bedrock was required to provide access for the diver welders. Poor water clarity added to the degree of difficulty.
Once the repair area was sufficiently exposed, divers were able to perform fit testing of the six individual pieces that comprised the repair clamp. A full seal weld of all the joints was required as the clamp had to be leak tight at a test pressure of 170 psi. At the completion of the installation, the repair clamp was coated underwater to prevent corrosion.
